Gibbens, Lady Yotes Have Day 1 Lead at C of I Invite
WILDER, Idaho – Trish Gibbens holds a five stroke lead after 36 holes, helping The College of Idaho to the team lead after Day 1 of The College of Idaho Invitational at wind-blown River Bend Golf Course.
Day 1 Results
On a day where winds were sustained at 20-30 miles per hour and gusts whipped to 45 miles per hour, Gibbens was the lone player to break 80, carding a two-round score of +12 (79-81, 160). Sunny Powers of Concordia, the current Cascade Conference stroke average leader, is second at +17 (81-84, 165), with Westminster College standout Jenteal Jackson in third, 10 strokes back at +22 (84-86, 170).
In the team chase, the Lady Yotes carded the low round of the tournament with an opening round 344, with their 36-hole total of 699 four-strokes clear of No. 23 ranked Concordia (351-352, 703). No. 21 ranked Rocky Mountain sits in third (362-346, 708), nine-strokes behind the hosts.
The C of I has two other players in the Top-20 – Baylee Borchers in fourth (82-89, 171) and Reagan Sanford in 17th (91-90, 181), while Concordia has all four of their scorers in the Top-20, including Holly Winburn in tenth (88-89, 177). Katy Peterson is in fifth place (88-85, 173) to lead RMC.
Scotty Jo Helmick is in tied for seventh (86-88, 174), helping Warner Pacific to a fourth-place finish (368-370, 738) on Day 1, with Hillary Seabrook also in seventh (84-90), as Corban is in fifth (365-374, 739), two shots ahead of Northwest Christian (366-375, 741).
The final round of the tournament will begin with a shotgun start tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. (MT)
