Powers Repeats as NAIA Women’s Golf All-American

KANSAS CITY, Mo. –Following her first CCC Player of the Year Award, Concordia junior Sunny Powers was named to the NAIA Women’s Golf All-American team for the second straight season as selected by the NAIA-Women’s Golf Coaches Association All-America Committee.
 
The list of honorees includes 15 first and second team student-athletes and 15 honorable mention selections.
 
Powers led Concordia with a 78.0 strokes per round average in 26 rounds of play in 2012-13. The Medford, Ore. native claimed five individual titles in 11 events while placing inside the top 15 in every tournament. With her successful campaign, Powers moved into the school’s all-time leader for career scoring  average at 78.32 strokes per round, moving ahead of another two-time All-American, Lindsay Aho (79.15 avg./2006-2010).
 
Oklahoma City, who claimed its NAIA best sixth national crown this year, landed two individuals, Elia Folch and Jessica Schiele, on the first team. Schiele and Folch finished first and second at the championships this year to lead the Stars to the victory.
 
In addition to Powers, repeat All-Americans included: Kylie Barros and Stephanie Wong of British Columbia, Courtney Shelton of Lee (Tenn.), Anna Schopp of Lubbock Christian (Texas), Schiele of Oklahoma City and Jamie Palermo of William Woods (Mo.).
 
The 2013 All-America list is composed of eleven seniors, eight freshman, seven juniors and two sophomores.
