PORTLAND, Ore.—Joining four players already signed for 2013-14, Briannah Smith from San Francisco’s Sacred Heart Cathedral has signed to play basketball and continue her education at Concordia University, head coach Aaron Christian announced.

“We are looking forward to having Briannah play for us,” Christian said. “She is a gifted athlete that can play multiple positions, but what impresses me the most is her ability to play defense. She takes great pride in that part of her game.

“Briannah is strong and can attack the basket offensively.  She had a great senior season and led her team to the NorCal Championship,” Christian said. “She is a great get for us and we look forward to working with her in the years to come.”

Smith joins, Lexi Campbell (Heritage H.S., Brentwood, Calif.), Stephanie Luce (Kentlake H.S., Kent, Wash.), Keleigh Hoopes (Tillamook H.S., Tillamook, Ore.) and Lacey Nicholson (Skyline H.S., Sammamish, Wash.) as incoming freshmen to the program in 2013-14.

Smith, a 5-foot-6 was a first-team All-West Catholic Athletic League selection last season after averaging more than 10 points per game while playing stout defense. She was also named to the All-City team by the San Francisco Examiner and was a nominee for the all-state team. With Smith, Sacred Heart earned a top 25 ranking in the state of California.
