SEATTLE, Wash. - With sunny and warm temperatures in the 70's on Saturday, the Eagles competed in the new track stadium at the University of Washington in today's Ken Shannon Invitational as one NU school record fell.
Freshman Jonathan Melton broke the NU school record of 11.09 in the 100m dash finishing 10th against solid competition. Melton had run an 11.09 at the Oregon Preview, but it was wind aided. Today's time was not wind aided. He then came back to better his season best in the 200m dash with a 6th place finish and a time of 22.29, .61 seconds better than his previous best. He is now #2 in the Cascade Conference in the event.
Kelsey Anderson shaved 21 seconds off her previous season's best in the 1500m run with an 11th place finish and crossing the finish line in 4:57.15. Her previous best was 5:18.35 she posted at the WWU Vernacchia meet in Bellingham on April 12. Taylor Cliett showed a lot of improvement in the men's 400m dash as he ran a 52.61 nearly two seconds better than his previous season best he ran at the Willamette Invitational.

"Jonathan Melton had a great day," said Eagle coach Mark Mandi. "He broke the school record in the 100m dash with a wind legal time of 11.09, then came back later to run a wind-aided time of 22.29 in the 200m dash. That was the best single day performance of anyone sprinter in NU history and I'm so excited to see how he competes in the post season."
Mandi continued, "Overall, I think that we are heading into the CCC Championships in great position. We have many athletes that are performing at their best and others who are on the cusp of a big, breakthrough performance. Now it's time for us to rest up and get prepared for the task that lies ahead."
