LA GRANDE, Ore. – The final  Cascade Conference Championships of 2012-13 will be handed out this week in Gresham but it’s a big one as the 2013 CCC Track and Field Championships head to Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, Ore.

The Concordia Cavaliers will be looking to continue their dominance atop both the men’s and women’s leaderboards just a few miles from their campus.  The Cavs will be looking for their eighth straight men’s title and seventh straight women’s title but the first conference titles under head coach Isaac Frederick.

On the women’s side, College of Idaho looks to challenge CU for the conference crown as they hold the top mark in the CCC in eight events and look to score in nearly every competition on the weekend.  The Yotes already picked up 10 points as Jasmine Sibert won the CCC heptathlon title last month at the 2013 CCC Multi-Event Championships in Klamath Falls, Ore.  Sibert also holds the top time in the 100m hurdles by over a second.

C of I will also be led by junior Hillary Holt, who last week ran the fifth-fastest collegiate 1500m this season to win the event at the prestigious Oregon Twilight. Holt won with a time of 4:11.62 to hit the USATF “A” qualifying standard and earn a spot at the U.S. National Championship in Des Moines, Iowa but not before she looks to capture the CCC title this weekend.

Concordia’s run towards another title will be showcased in the throwing events as CU has five of the top throws in the discus this season as well as the top mark in both the hammer and shot put.

It isn’t just the C-schools who will be looking for hardware as Eastern Oregon comes to Gresham with some of the best marks in the CCC and could find themselves in contention for the team title coming down the stretch.  Brooke Randall has the top mark in the javelin by over 1.5 meters and Karlee Coffey has a chance to dominate both the 5000m and 10000m runs for the Mounties.

On the men’s side, Concordia may come to Gresham as the defending champions but Southern Oregon looks to be the team to beat as the Raiders have potential to score in nearly every event.  Junior Eric Avila has the top times in the CCC in both the 1500m and 5000m runs as the strong SOU distance program should help them build a lead.

In the throwing events, Concordia will have the best opportunity to pick up points as the Cavs have the top mark in the shot put, discus, and hammer.  The Cavaliers also have the top 4x100m relay time this season, posting a 42.34 last week at the Oregon Twilight.

Eastern Oregon could also find themselves in contention for a men’s title as the Mounties have several athletes among the top performers in the CCC this season.

The weather also looks like it will be a winner this weekend with temperatures predicted in the mid-80s for the two-day meet.
