Corban Wins Inaugural Presidents' Cup Academic Award
LA GRANDE, Ore. – With the 2012-13 academic year completed Corban University has won the Cascade Collegiate Conference inaugural Presidents’ Cup the conference office announced today.
In July of 2012 The CCC Council of Presidents’ created the Presidents’ Cup Academic Award. The award is designed to recognize outstanding overall academic performance. Each member institution is scored using two criteria (overall student athlete GPA (men and women) and total number of student athletes receiving academic all- conference honors.
Eighty-four student athletes were named Academic All-Conference while the combined grade point average of 3.28 propelled the Warriors to the top spot with 40 points. Runners up, The College of Idaho earned 35 points as they had sixty-nine Academic All-Conference honorees and a 3.16 combined student athlete GPA.
Eastern Oregon University, Northwest Christian University and Concordia University round out the top 5 with 33, 28 and 24 points respectively. EOU had a combined GPA of 3.16 and fifty-seven student athletes named Academic All-Conference. The Beacons of NCU had a combined GPA of 3.15 and fifty-two named Academic All Conference while Concordia had fifty-one named Academic All-Conference and a combined GPA of 3.05.
To be considered for Academic All Conference a student athlete must be of sophomore standing, been at the school for two consecutive semesters or three quarters and have a 3.2 or higher GPA.
