EUGENE, Ore.  – The Northwest Christian University athletic department announced on Wednesday that George Walcott has been named the new Head Coach for the NCU men's and women's Track & Field program.

Athletic Director Corey Anderson said, "We are very excited to bring Coach Walcott into the NCU Athletics Family.  George comes to us at a time in his career where he is more than prepared to lead NCU in the expansion of our track and field program.  George brings a great amount of experience, energy and faith with his coaching pedigree in the sport of track and field."

Walcott is concurrently serving as the head track coach at Churchill High School, where over the past 12 years he has coached nine individual state champions, over 60 district champions. His Lancer teams have also won a pair of state and district championships. His coaching resume also includes collegiate assistant coaching stints at both Stanford and the University of Oregon. Walcott has built a strong reputation in the Eugene area as a sport consultant and personal trainer, working with numerous local athletes and teams across a multitude of sports in the areas of strength and conditioning, strength, and flexibility.

"Coach Walcott's expanded contacts with local coaches and student-athletes through his years of coaching and training will serve him well into this adventure," said Anderson.  "Beyond this, George's energy and enthusiasm for coaching young people wanting to be their best is infectious."

Walcott has been involved with the sport of Track &Field for over 45 years as both an athlete and coach. As an athlete at the University of Oregon, he was a Pac-10 Champion in the 200m. Representing his home nation of Jamaica, Walcott participated on the world stage at numerous international events including the Pan Am Games and World Championships.

"I am truly excited about this job because it gives me an opportunity to be a part of something very special," said Coach Walcott. "I get to build a program from the foundation, and that foundation begins with Jesus Christ as the chief corner stone. What more could a true believer ask for. I'm extremely excited because I know that the Lord is going to use our track program to change many young people's lives for his glory.

"I know that at this stage of my life, NCU is exactly where the Lord wants me to be. I had determined before the high school track season was over that this coming season would be my last year coaching at Churchill. My intention was to focus my attention and energy on my training business, but God has other plans and brought this opportunity my way. The more I prayed and thought about it, the more I began to realize that NCU is a great fit for me. I sense that the Lord is doing a great work here and I most surely want to be a part of his great work."

NCU cross country coach Heike McNeil said, "I am so excited to welcome George to the NCU coaching team. As the cross country and distance track coach, I look forward to working closely with George as we build our program"

Walcott is set to begin his coaching responsibilities immediately.
