EUGENE, Ore.  – The Northwest Christian University women’s soccer team picked up their first win of the season on Thursday, knocking off Trinity Lutheran University, 2-1. A corner kick goal by Jacque Bundtrock in the 75th minute proved to be the game-winner.

The game started out rough for the Beacons as they allowed the Eagles to score in the fourth minute. Kayla Kliphart took a pass from Shey Thommasen for the go-ahead score.

TLC took the lead into halftime but NCU wasted little time after the break before finding the back of the net. It was freshman Bailie Reinwald scoring her first career goal, hitting a five-foot strike off of a cross from junior Mishayla Bertelsen.

Then, with just 15 minutes to play, Bundtrock gave the Beacons the win, bending her corner kick from the right corner directly down to the goalline where it richocheted off an Eagle defender and in for the winner.

In-all, the Beacons (1-1) outshot TLC, 15-6. They had seven shots on goal in the contest with another three balls that found metal, clanging off the crossbar and posts.

Head Coach Brett Bentley said, “We’ve been focusing on building our possessions and building our attack from the back forward. Our ability to maintain control of the ball and do what we wanted today was spot on and led to the win.”

Sophomore keeper Kristin Fulbright saw just three shots-on-goal in the contest and collected a pair of saves.

NCU hits the road for the next six games, heading to Whitman College on August 30th.
