SPOKANE, Wash. - Northwest University earned a 3-0 sweep over Montana State Northern (25-22, 25-17, 25-23) on the final day of the CCC-Frontier Challenge at The Hub Sports Center.
Northwest led the entire first set on their way to the 25-23 win. MSUN closed to within one at 20-19, but two service aces by Arika Zwack and a MSUN error would increase the Eagle lead to 23-19. A service error by MSU Northern and an ace by NU's Ashton Arbuthnot win give the Eagles the win.
Set two was much closer than the score reflected as Northwest would break the set's 7th tie at 13-13 with a 3-0 run to put them into the lead for good at 16-13. NU would increase their lead to 20-15 after kills by Alivia Johnson and Dakota Adams. Three straight MSUN errors would end the set.
In the third and final set, NU would break out to a 15-9 lead and they would maintain that lead until MSUN would come back to close the gap to 21-19 after a service ace by Kelsey Williams. Straight kills by Arbuthnot and Rae Ann Haistings plus an attack error by the Northern Lights would bump the NU lead up to 24-19. After a four point run by MSUN, Sarah Stoker would end the set and match with her kill.
Northwest U. (3-2) was led by senior Sarah Stoker's 10 kills and teammate Rae Ann Haistings added 9 kills and 7 digs. Stoker ended the match with a .625 hitting percentage, a match high. Ashton Arbuthnot continued her consistent play with 37 assists while Leia Roy led the team with 14 digs. Arika Zwack contributed 4 service aces to lead the Eagles.
Abby Nicholas led MSU Northern (2-2) with a match high 16 kills while teammate Joni Nagy led the team in assists with 30. Holly Cartwright had 8 digs.

"Our players did a terrific job against a solid MSUN squad," said Steven Bain, NU head coach. "It was a team effort but the play of our middles should be singled out. They really established the net offensively and opened things up for our outsides."
Northwest U. finished up play with their final match of the tournament tonight when they take on Montana Tech at 6:00 pm in the Hub Sports Center.
