HASTINGS, Neb. – The Concordia men's soccer team fell 3-1 Hastings College as the Broncos Jake Ramsay recorded a hat trick to give his team the win on their 2013 season opener on Saturday, Aug. 31.

With the loss, the Cavaliers move to 1-1-0 on the season, while the Broncos start their season 1-0-0. Michael Chamberlain (Wailua, Hawaii/Island H.S.) scored Concordia's only goal of the match, while goalkeeper Scott Gross (Gladstone, Ore./Gladstone H.S.) made two saves.

Chamberlain's goal came in the 59th minute as he found himself in a one-on-one situation with Hastings goalkeeper Alex Guyer. Chamberlain fired a shot just inside the goal box that squeezed in just under a diving Guyer.

Ramsay recorded his goals in the 23rd, 27th and 51st minutes of the match. Ramsey's netted his first goal as he worked his way through traffic just outside the 18-yard box, powering a shot into the top left corner of the goal. He would finish his hat trick as he beat his man upfront, keeping himself on sides, and fired another shot into the back of the net.

The game wouldn't end without a flair for the dramatic as Ramsay was sent off with a red card in the 73rd minute for a spikes-up slide tackle on the Cavs' goalkeeper Gross. With the Broncos down a man, Concordia would find themselves with a few more good looks but wouldn't be able to score as the final whistle blew.

Guyer had to make five saves in the contest and moved to 1-0-0 on the season, while Gross went to 1-1-0. Dru Kobs led Hastings with four shots and two assists.

The Navy's next match will be against Doane College on Sept. 2 in Hasting's, Neb., kick off set for 11:30 a.m.
