For the first time in program history, Corban will take on a "powerhouse conference" member when the Warriors square off against Pac-12 member Oregon State in an exhibition game near the end of October.
Corban Adds Exhibition Game Against Pac-12 Member Oregon State
SALEM, Ore. – For the second time in program history, Corban University's men's basketball team will play an exhibition game against a NCAA Division I opponent when the Warriors take on Pac-12 Conference member Oregon State University on Tuesday, October 29th, at 7:00 p.m. inside Gill Coliseum in Corvallis.
"The team is looking forward to playing at Oregon State," said Corban head coach Steve Masten. "Every player at a small school wants to be able to play against a D-I team to see how they'll do and our guys will get that chance."
Last season, Corban traveled east to Idaho near the end of December to take on the Broncos of Boise State in the program's first-ever exhibition game versus a Division I school. The Warriors have played numerous exhibition games against NCAA Division II schools over the past five seasons, but never squared off against a Division I team until last year.
This season's exhibition game will mark the first time in program history that Corban has taken on a school from a NCAA basketball "power conference," as the Pac-12 is ranked sixth among the basketball power conferences according to an article last year by Sports Then and Now.
Corban will be the first of two Cascade Collegiate Conference schools to play against the Beavers this season, as Concordia will also take on Oregon State in an exhibition game one week later in Corvallis.
Masten will take the Warriors into battle against the Beavers with a handful of returners from last season that includes two-time All-Cascade Collegiate Conference 1st team member Jordan Carter, as well as seven newcomers that includes foreigners Ernst Kruger from Australia and Aaron Withe from England.
"I appreciate Oregon State agreeing to the exhibition game," commented Masten. "They know what it means to the programs and fans of small schools and they are giving those colleges/universities in Oregon the opportunity."
Following the season-opening exhibition game versus Oregon State, Corban will officially tip off the 2013-14 season against Portland Bible on Tuesday, November 5th, beginning at 7:30 p.m. inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center in Salem.
