NCU Outlasts Warner Pacific in Five

PORTLAND, Ore. – Northwest Christian remained undefeated in Cascade Conference play by holding off Warner Pacific 3-2 (25-13, 23-25, 22-25, 25-18, 15-12) tonight at C.C. Perry gym.
The match marked the third time in a row that the two teams have gone to five sets to decide the outcome. This contest eventually belonged to the visiting Beacons (8-2, 3-0 CCC) thanks in part to a .230 hitting percentage, compared to just .086 for WPC (2-8, 0-3 CCC).
NCU breezed to an easy win in set one behind the serving of Alyssa Dorr who served the Beacons to eight straight points, pushing their lead from 16-12 out to 24-12.
The host Knights were determined to make it a competitive match and claimed set two as both
Rachel Warick and
Julia Toscano had four kills without and error in the frame. WPC took set three as well after hitting for a .235 percentage and getting three service aces from
Nicole Lisoski.
The Beacons fought back in set four due to five kills without an error from Chelsea McGowan, while forcing WP in to eight attack errors.
Warner Pacific spotted the Beacons a 3-0 lead in the final set which proved to be decisive. The Knights rebounded to draw within 9-8, but two more WP errors along with a kill from Maren Mansfield put NCU back in control.

Julia Toscano led all players with 16 kills.
Mikaela Lisoski added 11 kills and 11 digs, while
Marchelle Bostic touched up 44 assists.
Northwest Christian was paced by Maren Mansfield's 15 kills, while Janel Fetters and Chelsea McGowan added 12 kills each. Dana McGowan had a match high 21 digs.
Warner Pacific will host Corban University tomorrow night, while NCU travels to take on Concordia. Both matches start at 7 pm.
