Concordia men and women lead Oregon Tech Invitational golf tournament
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – After two rounds on day 1 of the Oregon Tech Invitational golf tournament held at the Running Y, both the Concordia men and women lead this week’s event after two rounds of play on Sunday.
Oregon Tech, in their inaugural season, sits in second place on the men’s side, while the Owl women are fourth. Five other Cascade Collegiate Conference teams, including Corban University, Concordia University, College of Idaho, Warner Pacific and Northwest Christian joined Oregon Tech for their first-ever tournament. Warner Pacific and Northwest Christian were unable to field a full team on the women’s side.
On the women’s side Concordia leads the pack with a score of 637. The Cavaliers knocked three strokes off of round 2 after scoring a 320 to open and followed with a score of 317. College of Idaho sits in second place with a 654 (327-327) with Corban 713 (362-351) with Oregon Tech 792 (394-398) rounding out the scoring for the women.
Baylee Borchers of College of Idaho came away with a 77-78 (155) to lead Concordia’s Holly Winburn 78-78 (156) and Jennifer Gibbons 78-79 (157) by one and two strokes respectively. Oregon Tech is led by Malory Rose in 15th place with scores of 92-88 (180).
For the men Concordia led by just two strokes over Oregon Tech after round one, but a strong second round by the Cavaliers gave CU a 27 stroke cushion heading into the final day on Monday.
Concordia scored rounds of 306 and 285 to lead the way at 591. Oregon Tech was consistent at 308-310 for a score of 618, leading Warner Pacific and Northwest Christian by eight strokes each (626) with College of Idaho and Corban rounding out the scoring with a stroke total of 651 apiece.
Individually, Concordia’s Jesse Heinly shot a 71-67 (138) to lead after two rounds, holding a six stroke lead over College of Idaho’s Kyle DeLorey 73-71 (144). Josh Vizcaino of Concordia sits in third place with a stroke total of 147 and rounding out the top 5 are Tyler Falk of NCU (150) and David Murphy (152) of Oregon Tech.
Tournament action concludes on Monday with an 8 a.m. start.
