LA GRANDE, Ore. - Twenty student athletes representing the CCC's ten member schools converged on Vancouver, WA. September 15th to take part in the inaugural Cascade Collegiate Conference Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) the Conference office announced.

While it is common for individual schools to have student athlete committees within their athletic departments this is the first time to CCC has taken the concept to the conference level according to Commissioner Rob Cashell.

"As a conference we are committed to providing the best possible student athlete experience," stated Cashell.  ”It only makes sense to to give a collective voice to the nearly 2500 student athletes that compete at our member institutions, their input in how we advance the CCC is important."

The student representatives, who were selected by the Athletic Directors on their campus, heard presentations from Lori Thomas, Vice President for Membership/Character Initiatives at the NAIA, Matt Sayre, Director of Athletics at Southern Oregon University and Anji Weissenfluh, Head Women's Basketball Coach and Athletic Director at Eastern Oregon University.

This past summer the Council of AD's and the Council of President's endorsed the idea of creating the CCC-SAAC.

The CCC- SAAC serves the following functions:

- Discuss and provide feedback on conference issues affecting student-athlete welfare
- Assist in educating student athletes about CCC/NAIA issues on their home campus
- Increase and improve student-athletes’ understanding of the CCC and NAIA Legislative process
- Promote student-athlete participation in department wide Champions of Character programs
- Provide a forum for addressing student-athlete concerns
