Concordia Men, Women Earn Team Victories at Oregon Tech Invitational
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Both the Concordia men’s and women’s golf team held their lead heading into the final round of the Oregon Tech Invitational on Monday, claiming team victories over second place Oregon Tech on the men’s side and College of Idaho on the women’s side, today at the Runny Y Golf Course in Klamath Falls.
Concordia’s Jesse Heinly shot three rounds of under-par golf to claim the men’s individual title 71-67-71 (209), four strokes ahead of College of Idaho’s Kyle DeLorey with a 213 (73-71-69). Northwest Christian’s Tyler Falk (218) 75-75-68, Concordia’s Josh Vizcaino 221 (78-69-74) and Oregon Tech’s David Murphy (225) 75-77-73 rounded out the top-5.
The Cavalier men finished with a team total of 883 (306-285-292) to hold off Oregon Tech’s 913 (308-310-295) by a 30 stroke margin. Oregon Tech, in just their first year of varsity competition, finished in front of Cascade Conference members Northwest Christian (920), Warner Pacific (928), College of Idaho (957) and Corban University (963).
On the women’s side, Concordia held off a late charge by College of Idaho taking team honors by 10 strokes over the Yotes. CU finished with a team total of 957 (320-317-320) with C of I 10 strokes behind at 967 (327-327-313). Corban University finished third (1068) and Oregon Tech fourth in the team results (1184). Warner Pacific and Northwest Christian were unable to field a full team.
College of Idaho’s Baylee Borchers used a tournament-best 73 in the final round to earn medalist honors. Borchers’ 228 (+12) was six strokes clear of Concordia’s Holly Winburn (234) and 10 strokes ahead of Scotti Jo Helmickk (238) of Warner Pacific. Sunny Powers and Jennifer Gibbons of Concordia tied with a score of 240 to round out the top 5 competitors. Oregon Tech’s Malory Rose placed 16
th overall with a three-round total of 270.
