DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.—Facing the host team of the Habitat for Humanity Tournament, No. 3-ranked Concordia suffered its first loss of the season with a 2-1 defeat against No. 4-ranked Embry-Riddle University on Sunday.

With the result, Concordia fell to 4-1-1 on the season while Embry-Riddle improved to 5-1-1 on the year.

Then Cavaliers were first to score on Sunday as Hannah Scott (Milwaukie, Ore./Milwaukie H.S.) setup teammate McKayla Madison (Bend, Ore./Mountain View H.S.) in the 15th minute of play.

Dashing down the right line, Scott delivered a cross to the opposite side of the pitch to an awaiting Madison, who calmly punched in the goal from 12 yards away.

Capitalizing on an unchallenged air ball near midfield, the Eagles quickly notched the equalizer at the 23:37 mark as Andrea Froshaug sprinted forward, unchallenged, and uncorked a blast from 10 yards which sailed past CU keeper Nicole Franklin (Hillsboro, Ore./Century H.S.).

Moments later while briefly playing down a player due to injury, Froshaug put together nearly the identical run through the center to score what would become the eventual game winner at 24:05.

After nearly even play and possession in the first half, Concordia controlled the ball the majority of the second half while searching for the game-tying score. The Cavs outshot the Eagles 7 to 3 in the second half and generated a 4 to 2 advantage in corner kicks over the final 45 minutes.

"We really played well today in all facets of the game. Our possession and counterattacking was outstanding. We had a three-minute stretch where we lost our focus and ERAU penalized us for it," CU head coach Grant Landy said.

Embry-Riddle keeper Olivia Lynch finished with four saves to pick up the win. With two scores, the Eagles scored twice as many goals as Concordia's previous four opponents combined as the Cavs entered the game with a 0.40 goals against average.

Nine different players form Concordia managed at least one shot attempt while Embry-Riddle's seven shots were spread out amongst just three players, three of which were attributed to Froshaug. Isabelle Haaranen and Martinez Olsen each took two attempts with one each targeted at goal.

CU's Erin Huisignh had both her attempts on goal with Lynch denying both blasts. Scott and Jasmin Ayala (Simi Valley, Calif./Valley Christian H.S.) also recorded a shot on goal in the contest for the Cavs.

In the waning moments, Hannah Smith (Spokane, Wash./Gonzaga Prep) nearly leveled the score in the 88th minute with a clear look from 18 yards after a feed from Hannah Kimsey (Vancouver, Wash./Columbia River H.S.) but the sophomore sent the shot just high of the crossbar. Smith also provided one of the defensive plays of the day with a clearance via a header while stationed near the back post on a Haaranen shot in the72nd minute which would have given the Eagles a sturdy two-goal lead.

"All in all it was a great weekend both on and off the field. This was a great learning experience for our group and we will be better for it as the season progresses," Landy said.

Concordia will return to action on Friday, Sept. 20 and Sunday, Sept. 22 when it hosts the Cavalier Classic. Trinity Lutheran, Southern Oregon and Carroll College (Mont.) will join Concordia in the four-match tournament at Tuominen Yard.
