PORTLAND, Ore. – Closing out the non-conference portion of the schedule, No. 4-ranked Concordia defeated Trinity Lutheran 4-0 in the final game of the Cavalier Cup held at Tuominen Yard on Sunday.

Concordia improved to 6-1-1 on the season with the win while Trinity Lutheran fell to 2-10-1. The win also marked the sixth shutout for Concordia as the Cavs have now outscored their opponents 25-3 through eight games this season.

Hannah Scott (Milwaukie, Ore./Milwaukie H.S.) helped the Cavs open up a 2-0 lead midway through the first half by assisting on a pair of CU scores. Scott dished to Ashley Ames (Liberty Lake, Wash./Gonzaga Prep) in the 17th minute and to McKayla Madison (Bend, Ore./Mountain View H.S.) in the 22nd minute to set up the early advantage as the Cavs outshot their visitors 17-1 in the first half.

Scott started the first successful attack as she placed a deep cross from the left side to Ames who headed the ball past the Eagles goalkeeper. Scott's second assist occurred in the middle of the field with a forward pass to Madison, who fired from 18 yards and used a deflection to find the upper corner.

"It's always a challenge to come off a highly emotional game and turn around and play again," CU head coach Grant Landy said. "In the second game of a weekend you are never really sure how it will turn out, but I think we found our groove pretty quickly and anytime you get four goals in any soccer game is a plus."

Concordia needed just 15 seconds into the second half to add on to their tally as a failed clearance by the Eagles opened up space for Hannah Kimsey (Vancouver, Wash./Columbia River H.S.) and Erin Huisingh (Pasco, Wash./Chiawana H.S.). Approaching the 18-yard box, Kinsey toed a quick pass to Huisingh who rocketed the ball from 24 yards out and into the right corner of the net.

Closing out the scoring, Ames would add her second goal of the match in the 53rd minute with a header just out of the goalkeeper's reach. It was the fourth game that Ames has scored in this season and the second time the junior has notched a two-goal performance.

"We have a lot of attacking players that can impact the game," Landy said, "We have a lot of different personalities on that side of the ball which allows us to create in a multitude of ways."

Concordia returns to action on Thursday, Oct. 3 when it hosts Eastern Oregon University in the team's Cascade Collegiate Conference opener. Two days later on Oct. 5, Concordia will host College of Idaho before embarking on a three-match road swing.

"We will take a week off to heal up a little bit and regroup," Landy said. "There is a lot of parity in our league and we open with EOU who is having a great start to their year. We are going to have to be prepared for a tough match."
