Cavs Finish 10th at Boise State Dash Memorial
BOISE, Idaho—With a 17-over 301 in the final round, the Concordia men's golf team dropped one spot to finish in 10th place at the Boise State Dash Memorial held at on Tuesday.
In a tight field of NCAA DI affiliated programs, Concordia (290-292-301—883) finished just 20 strokes shy of second place out of the 12 teams in competition. Sacramento State (286-280-285—851) took home the honors for the top team, running away from the field for a 12-stroke win over the University of Idaho (286-286-291—863).
Just 10 strokes separated second place from ninth place with CSU Fullerton (290-291-284—865), Seattle University (288-289-288—865) and Utah State University (287-283-297—867) rounding out the top five in the team standings.
The Cavaliers defeated Weber State University (305-285-297—887) and the host Broncos of Boise State University (302-294-297—893).
With back-to-back 4-under 67s, Utah State's Tanner Higham (71-67-67—205) captured medalist honors by a single stroke over Fullerton's Mark Anguiano (70-70-66—206), who was one of two golfers to turn in a single-round score of 66 in the three-round tournament.
First-day leader Ty Travis (67-68-76—211), competing for Boise State, fell to a tie for fifth place, six strokes back of the winner.
Concordia senior
Jesse Heinly (Bend, Ore./Summit H.S.) (71-72-71—214) used consistent play to finish in 13th place, just two strokes off of breaking into the top five. Along with Heinly,
Josh Vizcaino (Vancouver, Wash./Evergreen H.S.) (72-79-76—228) was the only other Cavalier to climb the leaderboard on the final day, moving up a single spot to 48th place.
Tanner Maahs (Battle Ground, Wash./Prairie H.S.) (71-76-76—222) finished 10-over for the tournament for 32nd place, one stroke ahead of teammate
Kolton Kyne (Ridgway, Colo./Ridgway H.S.) (75-70-79—224).
Ryan Melnychuk (Grants Pass, Ore./North Valley H.S.) (83-74-78—235) provided the fourth scoring round for CU on Tuesday with a 7-over 78.
