ASHLAND – The Southern Oregon University soccer team wrapped up its preseason on a positive note Saturday afternoon, locking down Oregon Tech for its third straight shutout and fifth of the year in a 3-0 win at University Field.

Chloe Welch and Serena DeChristofaro tallied goals in the first half and Sydney Paulsen knocked in her fifth of the season in the second for the Raiders, who improved to 4-2-2 overall. The Owls fell to 3-4-1.

The Raiders will take their three-match unbeaten streak into the Cascade Conference opener at home Thursday against Northwest Christian.

Matching the defense's stingy work, the Raider attack got off 30 shots, including 14 on goal, to bring its total to 77 over the last three contests.

Oregon Tech goalkeeper Rebekah Matteri recorded 11 saves while SOU's Kylie Moltzen needed only seven.

The Raiders got going in the 14th minute when Paige Kilpatrick's throw-in bounced in front of the net, setting up Welch from point-blank range for her first score since 2011. The assist was Kilpatrick's second of the season, and she's hooked up both on throw-ins.

DeChristofaro's second goal of the season came in the 26th minute when she rebounded Alyssa Bricker's shot off the crossbar, and Caylin Jackson crossed to Paulsen from five yards out for the final goal with 25 minutes left in the match.

Paulsen and Megan McArthur had three shots on goal apiece. With Welch's goal, nine different Raiders have gotten on the board this season.

Rebekah Nisbet got off six of OIT's 10 shots and put four on goal.

Along with Thursday's 3 p.m. match against Northwest Christian, the Raiders will host Corban at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
