TRINIDAD, Calif. — Sophomore Trevor Lynn captured fifth place to lead the second-ranked Southern Oregon men's cross country team Saturday morning in the Humboldt Invitational at Trinidad State Beach.
Lynn completed the 8,000-meter course in 26 minutes, 20 seconds. The Raiders, competing in their first meet of the season and without most of their top runners, took fourth out of five teams.
Aaron Brenton was 24 seconds off Lynn's pace to place 12th overall and Dylan Paulk finished in 26:53 in 14th. Humboldt State, ranked fourth in NCAA Division II, claimed the team title and Oregon Tech's Paul Adam's finished in 25:50 for an eight-second win.
The 16th-ranked SOU women, who also left behind several of their top runners, got a 16th-place effort from Luisa Westley, who needed 24:44 to finish the 6,000-meter run. Jessie Rozario (25:06) was 22nd, Tanya Jones (26:17) was 33rd and the Raiders placed fifth out of five teams.
Humboldt State won the women's team title with the top five runners in the race, led by Imogene Carson (22:46.39).
Both SOU teams will be back in action Friday at the Ash Creek Invitational in Monmouth. That'll be the last tuneup for the Stanford Invitational, which is scheduled for Sept. 28 in Palo Alto, Calif.
