Red Lion Challenge Soccer Concludes in Spokane
SPOKANE, Wash.- Day two of the CCC/Frontier Red Lion Challenge concluded Saturday at the Dwight Merkel Sports Complex. The Frontier Conference earned an 8-2 advantage in the soccer portion of the 2
nd event.

Women’s Soccer
Yotes defeat Argos
The College of Idaho women's soccer team took a 1-0 decision over the University of Great Falls at the Cascade/Frontier Red Lion Challenge on Saturday at the Dwight Merkel Sports Complex.
Neither team could put a ball in the net during the first half despite College of Idaho (2-2) taking six shots and Great Falls (1-2-1) getting four shots away. It would be Annamarie Lopez from C of I that broke through in the 54th minute when she took a cross by Summer Jackson and chipped it in the goal from inside the penalty area.
The Yotes would finish the game with 12 total shots and they were able to get six of them on goal. The allowed just eight shots to UGF with four of those on target.
Melissa Holmes-Joseph used four saves to earn the shutout victory in goal for C of I. Jocelyn Morris took the loss for UGF with five saves.
The win for College of Idaho cut the Frontier Conference lead in the women's soccer standings in the Red Lion Challenge to 3-2. It also moved the overall soccer standings to 7-2 in favor of the Frontier.
Carroll Tops NCU
The Carroll College women's soccer team used three second half goals to come away with a 3-1 win over Northwest Christian University at the Cascade/Frontier Red Lion Challenge on Saturday at the Dwight Merkel Sports Complex.
After neither team could find a goal in the first 45 minutes, Carroll (3-1) would strike early in the second half. Cassidy Hammons hit a free kick from 20 yards out and put it in the net for the 1-0 lead in the 49th minute. The lead would hold for 10 minutes until Lauren Schweitzer of Northwest Christian (1-4) took a shot from inside the penalty area to level the contest at 1-1.
Carroll would retake the lead in the 69th minute when Haley Jensen took a long, looping shot from 30 yards out and it found the back of the net for the eventual game-winner. Macie Netz would add a penalty kick in the 73rd minute to secure the victory.
Carroll finished the game with an 11-3 edge in shots taken and they put nine of those shots on goal. NCU put all three of their shots on frame in defeat.
Jamie Carter took the win on goal for Carroll with two saves. The loss fell to Mishayla Bertelsen and her six stops.
Northwest Falls to Rocky
The Rocky Mountain College women's soccer team used a goal from Sydney Galletti in the 83rd minute to defeat Northwest University 3-2 on Saturday afternoon at the Cascade/Frontier Red Lion Challenge being played at the Dwight Merkel Sports Complex.
Northwest (1-5) would get on the board first as Acacia Johnson scored in the game's 10th minute. Johnson received a pass from Shea Samuelsen and then finished for her second goal of the season.
Galletti would draw Rocky Mountain (4-1) even in the 26th minute on a strike that was set-up by the first of three Therese Hagbyhn assists in the game. Rocky would take the 2-1 lead in the 56th minute as Hagbyhn created a scoring chance for Evelina Aberg.
Kelsey Greene would notch the equalizer for Northwest just three minutes later on a penalty kick. The game would remain even until Galletti's double gave Rocky its second win of the weekend.
Rocky had a slim 19-15 edge in total shots during the game with each team putting 12 of their chances on net. Galletti led RMC with four shot attempts while Johnson and Samuelsen had five shots apiece for NU.
Malin Johansson recorded 10 saves in the Rocky goal to earn the victory. The loss went to Lauren Patefiled who made eight stops after coming on in the 14th minute.
Men’s Soccer
UGF Defeats COI
The University of Great Falls men's soccer team completed a perfect weekend at the Cascade/Frontier Red Lion Challenge with a 2-0 win over College of Idaho on Saturday afternoon at the Dwight Merkel Sports Complex.
Great Falls (4-1) opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Danny Delgadillo sent a cross to Luis Torres who scored from inside the penalty area to give UGF the early advantage. It was the third goal of the weekend for Torres and the second assist for Delgadillo.
The game remained 1-0 into the second half when Paul Sliwa headed in a Juan Valderrama corner kick for his second goal of the weekend. The 51st minute goal gave the Argos a little cushion as they claimed the shutout.
UGF would attempt 12 shots for the game with six of them on goal. They held College of Idaho (0-4) to just three shots while also attempting six corner kicks.
Jose Pena earned the shutout victory in goal with one save. Colin Benham-Marin suffered the loss with four saves for the Yotes.
The Great Falls win improved the Frontier to 3-0 in men's soccer at the Red Lion Challenge. It also moved the Frontier out to a 5-1 lead in the overall soccer standings
Rocky Dominates NCU
One day after scoring five goals in a victory, the Rocky Mountain College men's soccer team claimed a 6-0 win over Northwest Christian University on Saturday afternoon at the Cascade/Frontier Red Lion Challenge that is being played at the Dwight Merkel Sports Complex.
It was again Oliver Gore that sparked the Rocky Mountain (5-0-1) offense. After scoring five goals on Friday, Gore had two goals and two assists on Saturday. He followed a goal from Chris Jermy in the 39th minute with consecutive goals in the 41st and 44th minutes to give Rocky a 3-0 lead at halftime.
Treve Icenoggle would push that advantage to 4-0 when he finished a pass from Gore in the 51st minute. Northwest Christian (0-3) would surrender an own goal in the 56th minute and then see Tanner Wolff finish from the top of the six on a ball played by Gore in the 81st minute.
Rocky finished the contest with 18 total shots and they put 14 of them on goal. They held NCU to just one shot on the afternoon.
Joachim Soderstrom and Sean Flynn combined on the shutout for Rocky. Max Torres suffered the loss despite seven saves before being removed in the 70th minute by Erik Carrazco.
