EUGENE, Ore.. – Fresh off their first-ever national ranking, the No. 25 Northwest Christian men's basketball couldn't hold serve on Friday night, dropping their first conference home game of the year to Concordia University, 75-69, in the Morse Event Center. The Beacons will take no comfort from a strong defensive performance that saw the Cavaliers held under 80 points for just the third time this season.

Concordia shot the ball well, hitting on 47% of their shots while holding the Beacons to just 38% shooting. NCU out-rebounded the Cavs, 42-39 but 15 turnovers spelled doom for the hosts.

The Cavaliers (13-4, 3-3 CCC) were led off the bench by Willy Ligon, scoring a game-high 20 points as he shot 4-for-7 from three-point range. The CU bench outscored the Northwest Christian reserves, 24-4. Adam Herman added 19 points, Anthony Holton scored 11 and Tyler Velasquez put in ten. Esvan Middleton scored nine points but led all players with 16 rebounds.

Northwest Christian (10-6, 4-2) was led by senior Coleton Baker, scoring 27 points as he hit five three-pointers in the contest. Sophomore Austin Kuemper delivered another strong performance down low, scoring 14 points and 14 rebounds, adding team highs with five assists and two blocks. Spencer Coleman also scored 14 points along with nine boards and Javonte Byrd added ten points, three assists and two steals.

The Beacons, who drop from first place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference to third with the defeat, will host Warner Pacific (9-9, 3-3) on Saturday night at 7:30 pm.
