EUGENE, Ore. – Sophomore Andrea Gloss put together the best performance of her career Saturday night, posting her second double-double of the season to lead Northwest Christian University to a 77-68 win over Warner Pacific in the Morse Event Center. NCU's three-Post rotation combined to score 49 points in the win. The victory completes a weekend sweep for NCU, who jumps from tenth to seventh place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference.
NCU (5-10, 2-5 CCC) shot nearly 50% in the contest and forced 25 Warner Pacific turnovers in the win. Gloss, who scored just six points on Friday night, answered with a career-high 26 points, shooting 11-for-13 from the field. Ten rebounds completed the double-double, three steals and three assists completed her well rounded effort.
Chandler Gabrio was in double-figures for the second straight night, scoring 12 points and six rebounds, adding a game-high four steals. Melyssa Weber came off the bench to score 11 points and tied Hannah Frederick for the team lead with six assists.
Head Coach Liz Turner-Bolton said, "I was very pleased with our execution tonight, following the game plan all the way through. Getting good distribution of the ball led to 20 assists and that is key for the type of game that suits us."
Warner Pacific (5-13, 1-6) was led by Ali Campbell's 21 points as the senior Forward shot 8-for-12 from the field, adding a team-high seven rebounds. Jessica Thoens, Lacy Wood, and Jacki Cannon had nine points apiece in the losing effort.
With a combined 44 fouls in the contest, the combatants went to the free throw line 46 times on Saturday. NCU won that battle at the charity stripe, shooting 74% (20-for-27) while the Knights managed just an 11-for-19 clip for a 57.9% result.
The NCU victory was their first over Warner Pacific since 2008, a streak that lasted ten games. The win also gives the Beacons their first two-game winning streak of the season. After entering the weekend alone in tenth place and winless in CCC action, Northwest Christian now sits tied for seventh-place with Evergreen State College, a double-overtime loser to No. 20 Oregon Tech on Saturday.
The Beacons will hit the road next weekend to face No. 13 Eastern Oregon University (15-4, 7-0 CCC) on Friday evening at 5:30 pm. On Saturday it will be a clash against The College of Idaho (7-8, 4-3) at 4:30 pm PST.
