PORTLAND, Ore.—Evergreen's Brittany Gray scored a game-high 27 points as the Geoducks defeated Concordia 79-71 inside the Cavalier Gymnasium on Friday night.
The win pushed Evergreen's overall record to 7-8 on the season and 3-5 in the CCC. Concordia finishes the night at 1-8 in conference contests and 3-16 overall this season.
An equally hard-fought first half which featured 10 ties came to an end with Evergreen enjoying a slight lead at 43-41, despite Concordia outshooting the Geoducks from the field and from the free throw line.
A push by the Cavaliers in the beginning of the second half gave the Cavaliers a 51-45 advantage, its largest of the game, with 17:09 to play, but six straight points from Gray quickly tied the game with the 12th time.
The game remained tied at 54-54 with 11:48 remaining before the Geoducks slowly pulled away with a 21-10 edge over the next seven minutes of play to hand the Cavs its fifth straight loss.
In addition to Gray's 27 points, the junior forward added a game-high 11 rebounds for one of two 'double-doubles' on the team as teammate Jessica Denmon tallied 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Lexi Campbell (Brentwood, Calif./Heritage H.S.) had a strong first half and finished the game leading CU with 18 points. Concordia's
Kelly Huey (San Francisco, Calif./Lincoln H.S.) finished with 16 points, five assists, and three rebounds while
Briannah Smith (San Francisco, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral) chipped in with 14 points and seven rebounds.
Concordia will look to end its skid tomorrow by hosting Northwest University. Evergreen will remain in Portland to play at Warner Pacific with both games schedule to begin at 5:30 p.m.
