Evergreen Slips Past WPC Women
PORTLAND, Ore. - Evergreen used a dominating performance on the glass to slip past Warner Pacific, 78-74 tonight at
Bart Valentine Court. The visiting Geoducks enjoyed a 53-25 advantage in rebounding, which included 25 on the offensive end.
A two point half-time lead for Evergreen (33-31) turned into a 13 point spread after nine minutes of play in the second period behind the interior scoring of Uriah Thomas. Warner Pacific battled back to cut the gap down to a single point at 69-68 with 3:21 on the clock after
Janelle Weiss sank a trio of free throws. Freshman
Kyeli Hendryx scored eight points during the run including a pair of makes from behind the arc.
Inside the final minute,
Courtney Walchli scored a layup for WPC and the Knights again trailed by a single point (75-74). Evergreen countered with free throws from Sammi Clark to make the margin three points with 13 seconds to play. The Knights got the shot they wanted on the ensuing possession, but
Jordan Wilcox's trey attempt was just short and Evergreen tacked on another free throw to seal the victory.
With the result, Evergreen improved to 8-8 overall and 4-5 in CCC play. Warner Pacific fell to 5-15 and 1-7 in league counters.
Evergreen was paced by Thomas' season best 22 points. Brittany Gray completed a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds.
Wilcox led WP with 13 points on the night, tossing in four makes from distance. Walchli added 11 points and four rebounds, while Hendryx scored a season best nine points.
