Kristen Schoenherr had 32 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists in SOU's loss Saturday.
ASHLAND – The Southern Oregon University women's basketball team's nine-point halftime lead evaporated in a hurry Saturday night against Eastern Oregon.
With it went the Raiders' upset bid of the 14th-ranked Mountaineers, who trailed by six when they scored 20 unanswered points on their way to an 89-80 win at Bob Riehm Arena. Brittany Newcomb went 8-for-27 from the field but scored 30 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the charge.
Kristen Schoenherr's career night of 32 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists turned out to be for naught for the Raiders, who slipped to 17-6 overall and 6-5 in the Cascade Conference. Schoenherr scored 18 in the first half for the second straight night, helping the Raiders jump out to a 46-37 lead.
Unlike Friday's defeat of College of Idaho, though, they weren't able to hold on. And unlike the Mountaineers' 58-50 loss Friday at Oregon Tech – which ended their record 29-game conference win streak – they came storming back.
Eastern Oregon, which has a two-game lead in first place, improved to 18-5 and 10-1.
Schoenherr's 3-pointer put SOU up 55-49 at the 16:25 mark. Newcomb answered with a 3 of her own on Eastern's ensuing possession to start the run, during which she scored 14 points.
The Mountaineer backcourt also got 16 points out of Maloree Ross and 14 from Nicole Redd, who went a combined 14-for-19 from the field and helped limit EOU's turnover total to six.
Raider post Carly Meister finished with a double-double (19 points, 10 rebounds), scoring 15 points in the first half and SOU's first 11 of the game.
Allison Gida registered 13 points and five rebounds, and Ashley Claussen had six points, six assists and four rebounds.
Eastern Oregon hasn't lost consecutive CCC games since February 2012.
Schoenherr went 10-for-15 from the field – her eighth straight game with at least four field goals and a shooting percentage of better than 50. She's 57-for-93 (61.3 percent) during the stretch, and has been in double figures 20 straight contests.
