NU's Greene a CoSIDA Scholar Athlete for Third Time
McLEAN, Va. – Northwest University’s Michael Greene is a repeat member of the Capital One College Division Men’s Basketball Academic All-District 4 Team, announced this afternoon by the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) national office. This is Greene’s third consecutive year of being named to the all-district team. He is also a two-time Capital One Academic All-American.
Greene, an NU graduate student, was one of five members of the District 4 team. Nominees for the honor come from NAIA, junior college, and Canadian collegiate schools from Canada and 15 U.S. states. Selection is based upon the athlete’s accomplishments both on the court and in the classroom. Greene had maintained a 3.9 grade point average as an undergrad and graduate student and is the leading scorer for the Eagles averaging 16.8 points per game this season. He currently has 1,467 career points heading into this weekend's game with Evergreen and is ranked No. 6 in the NAIA in field goal percentage with a .626 shooting average.
"Michael's accomplishments in the classroom is just a testament to the person he is," commented NU Eagle men's coach, John Van Dyke. "He works as hard in the classroom as he does on the court and sets such a great example for his teammates with his work ethic. He embodies what the NAIA Champions of Character's core values are all about. He is such a humble leader for our team."
Greene will now become a nominee for the 2014 Capital One College Division Academic All-America Team.
