ASHLAND – The Corban women's basketball team took advantage of Southern Oregon's thin front line on its way to stealing an 82-79 win Saturday from Bob Riehm Arena in a Cascade Conference battle.

Tara Vanweerdhuizen totaled 25 points and eight rebounds, while Jade Lowery had 21 points, six rebounds and five assists for the Warriors (9-8 overall, 4-1 CCC).

The Raiders (14-4, 3-3) had a chance to tie with a 3-pointer on the last possession, but Ashley Claussen's deep attempt from straightaway rimmed off. Claussen finished with 18 points, eight assists and four rebounds. Bree Park, making her first start as a Raider, canned four 3-pointers and scored a season-high 20 points.

Park started in place of forward Brenna Anderson, who was injured in Friday's win against Northwest Christian. Kiara Moore, Allison Gida and Tiani Bradford were also out.

In turn, Corban pulled down 19 offensive rebounds, including 13 in the second half, and had 19 second-chance points to SOU's eight. The Warriors took care of the ball, too, finishing with 21 assists to just nine turnovers.

The Raiders only had 12 turnovers – their second-lowest total this season.

The teams swapped leads 11 times in the second half alone and were tied 10 times.

They were last tied with 5 minutes, 12 seconds left, 70-70, thanks to a Park jumper before Corban came back with a Julia Young layup that spurred an 8-1 run. Consecutive buckets by Kristen Schoenherr cut SOU's deficit to 78-77 with 34 seconds left, but the Warriors made their last four free throws to keep the lead.

Park gave SOU its largest lead with 8:40 left in the first half on a jumper that made it 25-16. Corban's response was a 19-5 run.

Schoenherr posted 18 points, eight rebounds and four assists for the Raiders. Carly Meister had 11 points and nine rebounds, and Cambie Edwards pulled down seven rebounds off the bench.

Young had 12 points and three assists for Corban. Sadie Pilgeram added eight points, seven rebounds and three assists.

The Raiders, who hadn't lost in seven previous home games, will be back on the road next Friday and Saturday at Evergreen and Northwest.
