Men's Soccer Modified RPI Rankings Released
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — In the first installment of the 2014 NAIA Men's Soccer Modified Ratings Percentage Index (MRPI), Davenport (Mich.) holds the top ranking, announced by the national office on Wednesday. The Panthers become the eighth different program, since the inception of MRPI in 2010, to claim the No. 1 position.
The rest of the top five include No. 2 Thomas (Ga.), No. 3 Grand View (Iowa), No. 4 Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) and No. 5 Rio Grande (Ohio).
Ranked second in the latest Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, Davenport is 8-1-0 on the season. The Panthers have been on the winning end against three Top 25 teams, including then-No. 2 Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) on Sept. 1. Davenport continues Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play Wednesday against Concordia (Mich.).
No. 25 Southwestern Christian (Okla.) is the highest mentioned team in the MRPI that was not ranked in the most recent Coaches’ Top 25 poll.
Since 2010, these teams have held the No. 1 position in a MRPI poll: Hastings (Neb.) (3), Rio Grande (3), Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) (2), former member Simon Fraser (B.C.) (2), Auburn Montgomery (1), Davenport (1), Grand View (1) and Mobile (Ala.) (1).
Rio Grande is one of five teams to earn a position in each of the 14 MRPI rankings since it was introduced in 2010. The other squads include Belhaven (Miss.), Hastings, Kansas Wesleyan and Lindsey Wilson.
The MRPI consists of the team’s modified winning percentage, their opponents’ winning percentage and the cumulative ratings points from the NAIA Men’s Soccer Coaches’ Top 25 Poll. Each of the three values has a weighted percentage calculated in the MRPI. The MRPI modifies the value of home/away/neutral results and adds more value for games against opponents ranked in their respective national poll.

The MRPI—first adopted in 2010—will select the at-large qualifying teams and seed the 32-team national championship field. For a complete NAIA Men’s Soccer Modified Ratings Percentage Index calendar, clickhere. The second MRPI will be announced on Oct. 22 and the third and final one on Nov. 16.
