The NU Eagles celebrate Acacia Johnson's goal, her 4th this week and 12th for the year
Eagles Record 6th Straight Shutout in Win Over Corban
KIRKLAND, Wash. – The Northwest University Eagles recorded their 6th straight shutout as they blanked Corban 2-0 in CCC play this afternoon. NU improves to 5-0 in conference play and holds on to the top spot in the CCC with 15 points.
Acacia Johnson scored the first Eagle goal, her 12th of the season, in the 44th minute as she took a through ball from Tatyana Reveles, beat a defender on the left side and finished from 12 yards out for the score. NU would take a 1-0 lead into halftime.
In the second half, a Corban foul in the penalty box gave Kelsey Greene a PK which she put past the Warrior keeper and into the right corner to put NU up 2-0 at the 63:24 mark. Corban would have 9 shots in the half, but the stingy NU defense and three saves by Patty Hughes in goal would preserve the shutout.
Northwest U (7-5-1, 5-0 CCC) held a slight 12-10 edge on shots and had 9 corner kicks to Corban’s (7-6-2, 2-3-1 CCC) 7. NU’s Patty Hughes earns her 6th straight shutout making 4 saves in goal for the game.
“I felt our ladies played a complete game that what we’ve been able to play lately, finishing opportunities when they could and reading the game well,” commented NU coach, Val Seid. “I was very pleased to see them play and am just thrilled with their attitudes and desire to be the best.”
Northwest will now travel next week for two key CCC games at the College of Idaho and Eastern Oregon on Oct. 16 and 18. Corban will remain on the road and will play Northwest Christian in Eugene on Oct. 18.
