CC- How did you choose CU to continue your athletic and academic career?
LM- When picking where to go play, I knew that my education was the most important part of my decision. I had heard that CU had a great education program and when I visited campus, I knew it was where I should be.
CC- What are some of the demands of being a student athlete?
LM- I think the biggest demand is our time. If we’re not in class, we are at weights, practice or traveling for a game. It definitely teaches us great time management skills!
CC- What are some of your best experiences so far, both academically and athletically at college?
LM- Student teaching has definitely been my favorite part about my education here at CU. I have loved the chance to get experience in the classroom and work with awesome kids. My favorite volleyball memories are our trips to California during preseason. We always go to Disneyland and it’s such a fun bonding experience for our team.
CC- Who are some influential people in your life at CU?
LM- One of the most influential people in my life here is Carrie Kosderka-Farrel. She has been an amazing support system for me throughout my years here at CU and her office door is also open. Another important person to me was one of my assistant coaches, Kimberly Drechsel.
There are so many things I could say about what she did for me, but she most importantly showed me what a Godly woman looks like and how to love the Lord through everything.
CC- When not competing or studying what do you do for fun?
LM- With the little time we have, I love to see my family. I also use that time to catch up on all of my reality TV shows!!
CC- What do you hope to accomplish as a member of the CCC-SAAC?
LM- As a member of SAAC I hope to be a voice for our athletes and school. I think that it is an awesome opportunity to make great connections with other student-athletes and learn more about leadership. I am hoping to create a more of a conference community and build relationships with the other schools. Our schools also have the opportunity to be involved in our communities and I am hoping we can create a conference full of Servant Leaders.
CC- What do you see yourself doing after graduation?
LM- After graduation, I see myself taking the summer off and starting a teaching career. In the next couple of years I will continue and pursue my Masters, but I am hoping to get a job and work in my own classroom first.
