Cavaliers Take Over First Place with Win Over Eagles
KIRKLAND, Wash. – Concordia got four goals from three players as they took sole possession of first place in the Cascade Conference with a 4-0 shutout of Northwest University this afternoon.
The first half’s only score came in the 10
th minute as CU’s Zac Naylor scored from 5 yards out after taking a header from teammate Cody Guthrie. Concordia had 13 first half shots as their defense held NU to just one shot in the period.
At the 47:56 mark of the second half Timur Zhividze scored unassisted as he took a ball off a defender’s foot and drilled it into the goal from 10 yards out on the right side. Naylor got his second goal of the game in the 53
rd minute as he took a rebound off the Eagle goalkeeper’s hand and scored up the middle from 3 yards away. Tucker Bufton ended the scoring for the Cavaliers at 57:06 as he dribbled up the left side and scored from 18 yards out.
Mitch McCaw earned the shutout for Concordia (9-4, 8-2 CCC) in goal with 5 saves. Goalkeeper Daniel Christenson took the loss for Northwest U (11-3, 7-3 CCC) making 4 saves. CU outshot Northwest 24-13 dominating possession with the Eagles holding a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.
“Concordia came in today and simply beat us and we did not respond well,” commented NU men’s coach, Gary McIntosh. “We have a week now before our next game to heal up and get ready for next game.”
