Tech's Upset Bid Falls Short in Double Overtime Loss to Corban
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Kemar Prince chipped in the game winning golden goal in the second overtimeto lift Corban University past upset minded Oregon Tech 3-2 in Cascade Conference action Saturday afternoon at Trevor Derrah Field. Corban improves to 7-2-1 in CCC play and 9-4-1 on the season with the win. Tech slips to 2-12-0 on the season and 1-9-0 in CCC play with the loss.
The Warriors wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard as Kyle Hammond controlled a deflection off an OIT defender and scored from 35 yards out, just out of the reach of Tech’s goal keeper James Goheen 44 seconds into the match.
Grant Alexander would tie the game in the 38th minute scoring on a free kick from 40 yards out. Alexander’s shot was laser that deflected off the head of a Corban defender just past the outreached hands of Steven Mason, the Warrior Keeper.
Tech would take the lead in the 78th minute as a Colton Grytness shot was blocked by a Corban defender, right to the feet of Luis Valdez who finished the play into the lower left of the net putting the home team up 2-1.
The Warriors played fast and furious over the waning minutes and finally found the equalizer withjust 3 minutes remaining as Daniel Fredrickson headed in a perfect corner kick off the foot of Tim Kagey to force overtime.
Both teams missed on opportunities in the first overtime as stellar keeper play on both ends sentthe game to a decisive second overtime.
In the 103rd minute Kagey was at it again, this time sending a nice pass across the box finding teammate Kemar Prince who chipped in the game winning golden goal from 6 feet out, giving Corban the 3-2 double-overtime win.
Corban had a 30-11 advantage in shots for the game and held a 10-3 edge in shots on goal.
Goheen was credited with 7 saves in picking up the tough loss with Corban’s Mason tally+ing 3 saves in picking up the win.
Oregon Tech will next host Evergreen State next Saturday at 1:00 pm at Trevor Derrah Field. Corban will head to Portland, Oregon to take on Warner Pacific also next Saturday.
