LEWISTON, Idaho – The Eastern Oregon University men's cross country team finished with the third best time ever in the history of the EOU program as the Mountaineers claimed first place at the Inland Empire Championships. The Mountaineers women's cross country team finished fifth.
EOU Men's Cross Country team scored 34 points, as a team, to claim the victory, leading the way was Damion Flores. Flores finished ninth overall with a time of 24:23, however, Flores ran into some issues during the 8K race. Running in sixth place, Flores stopped and changed his shoe and fell all the way back to 26th. He rebounded and climbed all the way back to ninth place.
Following Flores was Lucas Updike who finished 20 seconds behind Flores. Updike's time was the 12th fastest time in EOU history. Hans Roelle was right behind Updike, finished with a time of 24:50. Roelle's was the 13th fastest time in EOU history.
Nic Maszk and Kody Shriver rounded out the scoring for the Mountaineers. Maszk finished in a time of 25:08 and Shriver with a time of 25:12.
On the women's side, the Mountaineers finished fifth with 128 points. This was the women's best time of the season by three minutes and 20 seconds. Pacing the Mountaineers was freshman, McKenzie Evans. Evans' time of 18:08 was the second fastest freshman time, only behind four time All-American Karlee Coffey.
Rachel Roelle finished second for Eastern Oregon with a time of 18:40 for a 52nd finish. Roelle's time was the seventh fastest by a sophomore. Hailee Hollingsworth finished 75th overall with a time of 19:16. Jodine Steemers and Kailey Wilson rounded out the scoring for the Mountaineers. Steemers finished 78th overall with a time of 19:28, while Wilson finished 105th overall with a time of 20:49.
The Mountaineers return to action on Nov. 8 when they participate in the CCC Championships held in Portland, Ore.
