SALEM, Ore. – The Corban University baseball team inked a trio of highly-touted players for the 2015 recruiting class, Head Coach Jeff McKay announced on Tuesday morning.
“We are blessed to have attracted players with their kind of character potential playing ability,” stated McKay. "With an additional release soon of more players in this class committing, I am humbled and inspired to see who God is bringing to this university and its baseball program.”
Jordan Britton – 6’2” – LHP – Caldwell High School – Idaho
Britton inked with the Navy and Gold after earning First-Team All-Conference honors during his junior campaign.
“Jordan demonstrated excellent composure on the mound during his junior season and put up exceptional numbers,” commented Associate Head Coach Jacob Garsez. “I have enjoyed watching him pitch over the past year and a half, and feel strongly that Jordan’s baseball future is significant. His upside on the mound is as good as anybody we have signed.”
Following his sophomore season, he pitched his way to Second-Team All-Conference accolades. In the summer, Britton played ball for the Caldwell Silver Streaks in the American Legion Baseball League.
“Not to supersede Jordan’s upside on the mound, but our staff is excited about the overall makeup he brings to our program,” said Garsez. “He is a great kid with high expectations in the classroom.”
Britton plans to major in Occupational Therapy.
Tanner Marsh – 5’6” – 2B/SS – Tualatin High School – Oregon
Anticipating a successful senior campaign at Tualatin High School, Marsh chose Corban after a three seasons on the varsity team.
“Tanner joins his brother, Austin, as a member of Warrior baseball, which is the ultimate compliment to our program and for Corban University,” stated Garsez. “Whenever you get a sibling to join the program, it is an indication that the program and the school are who they say they are in the recruiting process.”
Marsh, who was selected to attend the highly-regarded Baseball Northwest Championships, played for the Evoshield Canes.
“Tanner brings a strong work ethic on the baseball field and in the classroom. He has the ability to cause havoc on the field and can be the dirt-dog type of player we look for.”
Marsh intends to major in Criminology.
Zach Penrod – 6’1” – CF – Columbia High School – Idaho
Coming to Corban from Nampa, Idaho, Penrod signed with the Warrior program following a successful junior season which included a fourth-place finish at the 2014 4A State Tournament. In the consolation game against Pocatello High School, he received the IdahoSports.com Player of the Game honors.
“Zach demonstrated a skillset that makes us feel he has the potential to be a five-tool player at our level,” said Garsez.
During his junior year, Penrod swung his way to First-Team All-Conference Outfield plaudits, as well as a spot on the roster for the 40-Man Showcase Team. In addition, he notched Second-Team All-Conference Outfield accolades during his sophomore campaign.
“With Zach’s arm strength and ability to take angles to the ball in the outfield, along with his potential to hit in the middle of our order, we foresee him making a strong impact on both sides of the ball,” commented Garsez. “Zach is a strong character kid and has high expectations for himself in the classroom.”
Penrod is set to major in Sports Management.
