KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University scored two second half goals to come from behind and defeat Oregon Tech, 2-1, in Cascade Conference play today.

OIT scored with 14 seconds left in the first half as Ian Tarnovsky headed one in from close range on the right side of the goal after a cross by Benito Torres-Mata. His shot, right before the clock ran out, was from 3 yards out and into the right corner.

Oregon Tech goalkeeper, James Goheen and the Owl defense kept the Eagle out of the net in the first half as Goheen made two of his 7 saves in the half.

Northwest scored the game tying goal in the 52nd minute off Ryan Gamache’s free kick as he bent his shot around the OIT wall for the score. NU then got the game winner in the 66th minute as Taylor Young rolled a hard shot up the middle from 16 yards out.

Northwest U (7-2, 3-2 CCC) outshot the Owls (1-8, 0-5 CCC) with 24 shots to 10 for Tech. Taylor Young and Kyle Zimmerman led NU with 4 shots each while Colton Grytness led the Owls with 4 shots. For Young, it was his 6th goal of the season to go along with 5 assists for the year. NU’s goalkeeper Dominick Downer held OIT scoreless in the second half and grabbed 2 saves for the game.

Said Gary McIntosh, Eagle head coach, “It was nice to get the win coming from being down a goal. The guys did a great job in the second half creating opportunities.  OIT came to play and made us work really hard to day of the win. Time to focus on tomorrow’s game.”

Both teams continue play Saturday when Northwest U hosts the College of Idaho and Oregon Tech travels to Olympia to play Evergreen.
