Owls Shutout Geoducks for First CCC Win
Olympia, Wash. – The Oregon Tech men’s soccer team picked up their first Cascade Conference win of the year with a 2-0 shutout of Evergreen State Saturday afternoon on Geoduck Pitch.
With the victory, the Owls improve to 2-8 overall and 1-5 in the Cascade Conference. Evergreen State, meanwhile, falls to 3-2-1 in conference and 3-5-1 overall.
The win was the first CCC road win for the Hustlin’ Owls since a 3-2 win at Northwest Christian on October 28, 2011.
Tech scored both goals within a 5 minute span in the 1st half. Ian Tarnovsky headed in the eventual game winner in the 23rd minute, as Grant Alexander sent a free kick across the box with Tarnovsky finishing the play.
Tech’s Benito Torres-Mata gave the Owls a 2-0 lead in the 28th minute taking a free ball and punching in a shot from the right side from 8 yards out.
Owls Keeper James Goheen picked up his first career shutout with 5 saves in picking up the win.
For the game, Evergreen held a 21-10 advantage in shots and a 6-5 edge in shots on goal.
The Geoducks were led offensively by Issa Hassan and Ethan Sumlin each with 4 shots on the day.
Tech was led by Torres-Mata, Jackson Smith and Colton Grytness with 2 shots each in the game.
Oregon Tech will next play at Northwest Christian in Eugene, Ore. on Wednesday October 8th.
Evergreen State will host Concordia University on Tuesday, October 7th on Geoduck Pitch at 3:00 pm
