OLYMPIA, Wash. – Acacia Johnson's goal just 46 seconds into the first overtime period, lifted Northwest University to a 1-0 victory over Evergreen this afternoon in Cascade Conference play. Northwest U takes over the top spot in the league with 9 points and a 3-0 record.

Northwest U attacked early as Johnson got off four shots in the first 7 minutes of the game. The Eagle defense only allowed 4 shots in the half.

In the second half, with time running down the Eagles pressed hard getting 5 shots in the final 6:30, but none of the shots would find the goal. Credit Evergreen goalkeeper Kyla Kitts for making 5 second half saves to hold NU scoreless.

Then, in the overtime, what couldn't get done in 90 minutes got resolved in just 46 seconds as Kylie Garrison sent a cross in front of the goal to Acacia Johnson who put it past the Geoduck keeper for the golden goal.

For Johnson of Puyallup, Wash., it was her 8th goal of the season as she led Northwest U (5-5-1, 3-0 CCC) with 7 shots, 4 on goal. NU outshot Evergreen 20-6 and the Eagle defense limited Evergreen to just one shot on goal for the game. Patty Hughes (Kalispell, Mont.) earned the shutout for Northwest.

Evergreen goalkeeper Kyla Kitts made 8 saves for the game and Vanessa Zamora had two of the Geoduck's six shots.

"The ladies played well today, but we struggled in the first half against a tough Evergreen team," stated Val Seid, NU head coach. "We stayed positive throughout and worked through frustrations. I am very proud of these ladies and the work ethic they show and their desire and determination to be the best."

Northwest U will host Northwest Christian in a key CCC contest on Thursday, October 9 in a 3:00 p.m. contest.
