Men’s Cross Country Finishes 4th and Women’s 11th at Willamette Invite

SALEM, Ore. – The No. 12 ranked, Eastern Oregon University men's cross country team finished fourth at the, 40th annual,Charles Bowles Willamette Invitational. The Eastern Oregon women's team finished in 11th place.
 
EOU's Men finished the race with 89 team points, led by senior Lucas Updike.  Updike finished ninth overall, claiming a time of 25:19.2. Nic Maszk, Sophomore for EOU, finished two seconds behind Updike. 
 
The men's team started out slow in the first mile.  With their first group of runners around 50th place, EOU started to pick of runners in the final mile.  Damion Flores, who has been battling foot injuries, dropped out of the race after the first mile.  
 
Hans Roelle was the third Mountaineer to finish the race and did so in a time of 25:23.8, two seconds behind Maszk. Kody Shriver followed, finishing 19th overall. Rounding out the scoring for the Mountaineers was Gus Titus, as he finished 50th overall, with a time of 26:20.
 
On the women's side, EOU finished 11th with 285 points. Leading the way for EOU was freshman McKenzie Evans who finished 30th overall with a time of 18:53.4. Rachel Roelle, with a 55th finish and a time of 19:30.7.
 
Finishing third was Hailee Hollingsworth with a time of 20:17.5 to finish 80th overall. Jodine Steemers followed with a time of 20:24.6 for a 83rd place finish. Rounding out the scoring for EOU was Kailey Wilson. Wilson finished in a time of 20:35.2 for an 87th place finish.
 
EOU returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 18th when they travel to Lewiston, Idaho to participate in the Inland Empire Championships.
