PORTLAND, Ore.—
The University of British Columbia, ranked No. 7 in the final NAIA Coaches' Poll last season, posted the two lowest team scores of the day to snare the team lead through two rounds of play at the Cavalier Classic, hosted by Concordia University at Rose City Golf Course on Monday.

British Columbia (306-306—612) scored back-to-back 306s on the par-73 course for a 44-stroke lead over the University of Victoria (320-336—656) with 18 holes to play.

Playing in the second of four Cascade Collegiate Conference tournaments throughout the regular season, the host squad from Concordia (332-335—667) ended the night with a 29-stroke lead over conference opponent College of Idaho (332-335—667) for third place overall in the team standings.

California's Simpson University (352-363—715) came in fourth with a round to play while CCC teams Warner Pacific College (383-365—748) and Oregon Tech (380-373—753) rounded out the team scoring.

UBC placed six golfers inside the top 10 with Kat Kennedy (75-74—149) holding a three-stroke lead over teammate Winnie Hyum (76-76—152) for the top spot on the leaderboard. Victoria's Brianna Carrols (74-79—153), the first-round leader, broke up the string of Thunderbirds while Corban's Brooke Spencer (77-78—155) carded the best CCC score of the day, sharing fourth place with UBC's Catherine Rousseau (77-78—155), who was competing as an individual for the Canadian club.

Concordia was led by Kelsey Whiles (Hockinson, Wash./Hockinson H.S.) (81-82—163) and Abby Brennan (Eugene, Ore./Sheldon H.S.) (80-85—165) in 19th and 12th place, respectively.

Lexi Oropeza (83-82—165) paced the team from College of Idaho and Janelle Ferlan (83-86—169) led the group from Oregon Tech with Oropeza tied for 12th with Brennan and Ferlan ending two rounds of play in 14th place.

Cutting seven strokes from her initial round to jump to a tie for 16th place, Scotti Jo Helmick (89-82—171) led Warner Pacific.

The third and final round of action of the Cavalier Classic will continue on Tuesday morning at Rose City Golf Club.

Concordia won the first CCC event of the year, the Oregon Tech Invite on Sept. 22-23, by a 90-stroke margin over College of Idaho.
