KANSAS CITY, Mo. – College of Idaho keeper Brittany Houghton was honored today as the NAIA Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, announced by the national office.

The freshman, from Saratoga Springs, Utah, was instrumental in C of I's weekend sweep of games, including an upset of then No. 1 ranked Concordia.

Houghton made four saves on Thursday in a 3-1 victory over Warner Pacific, and then followed it up with six second half saves in a combined shutout over Concordia.

She becomes the 12th C of I women's student-athlete to earn national weekly honors and the second women's soccer player – joining Amy Rhoades, who earned the nod in 2007.  Other national award winners include women's basketball players Chakala Carthen (2014) and Alyson Pincock (2001); volleyball players Sarah Harris (2010), Erin Cherrington (2006), Charity Gaston (2005) and Amanda Basanez (2003); softball players Nickayla Skinner (2012) and Katie Zillner (2008); and runners Jasmine Hurd (2013) and Hlllary Holt (once in 2012, three times in 2013, twice in 2014).
