LA GRANDE, Ore.- The Cascade Collegiate Conference sponsors a Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) made up of representatives from each member institution. The function of the committee is to; discuss and provide feedback on conference issues affecting student-athlete welfare, assist in educating student athletes about CCC/NAIA issues on their home campus, increase and improve student-athletes' understanding of the CCC and NAIA Legislative process, promote student-athlete participation in department wide Champions of Character programs and provide a forum for addressing student-athlete concerns.

The CCC office caught up with Travis Pacos who is one of the  committee representattives from Northwest Christian and participates in men's basketball. Travis is begiining his second year as a member of SAAC.

CC- How did you choose NCU to continue your athletic and academic career?

TP- I was recruited by the athletic director of our school, Mr. Corey Anderson who was the head men’s basketball at the time. When I visited the campus, I fell in love with the small Christian community feel as well as the fact that is surrounded by a big college atmosphere in Eugene.

CC- What are some of the demands of being a student athlete?

TP- Some of the demands of being a student athlete at NCU are maintaining a high enough GPA that will allow you to be eligible to play your sport. Also, at NCU there is an emphasis on representing your sport and university with high integrity and character wherever you go.

CC- What are some of your best experiences so far, both academically and athletically at college?

TP- Academically, it would be getting onto the dean’s list. For basketball, it would be the conference semi-final playoff game last season where we won the game which clinched us a birth to our school’s first ever NAIA national tournament appearance.

CC- Who are some influential people in your life at NCU?

TP- The athletic director Corey Anderson and my head coach Luke Jackson.

CC- When not competing or studying what do you do for fun?

TP- Spend time with friends and watch football.

CC- What do you hope to accomplish as a member of the CCC-SAAC?

TP- I hope to leave a legacy as one of the first ever CCC-SAAC members that will carry on to the upcoming members at my school.

CC- What do you see yourself doing after graduation?

TP- I see myself moving back to California looking for a job in the field of athletics at a high school or university weather it is coaching or working in the athletic department.
