Thompson, Raiders shoot Menlo out of Ashland 11/1/2014 10:26:00 PM SOU Sports Information ASHLAND – Eric Thompson (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg) poured in 21 of his 29 points before halftime and the 17th-ranked Southern Oregon men's basketball team heated up in a hurry against Menlo's zone defense for an 85-61 win in the Flagship Inn Classic on Saturday night at Riehm Arena. Thompson went 5-for-6 from downtown and 11-for-16 overall in headlining SOU's 52-percent night from the field. Guards Tim Weber (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg) and Joel Spear (Adelaide, Australia/St. Michaels) ran the show for the Raiders (2-0 overall) – Weber dishing out 11 assists with five rebounds and four blocks, and Spear going for seven points, eight rebounds and four assists. Jacob Kaler (Camas, Wash./Camas Valley) added 11 points and Justin Martin (Central Point, Ore./Crater) drilled three of SOU's 11 3-pointers off the bench. Brennan Rakoz (Toledo, Wash./Toledo) came in to make all three of his shots and collect five rebounds. The Oaks (0-3) started hot but in the end were held to 27-percent shooting (18-for-67). A Tyler Evans 3-pointer gave Menlo a 21-18 edge 12 minutes into the game until SOU went on a quick 14-1 run, during which Thompson made five straight attempts. Two Thompson triples to start the second half had SOU up 55-34, and the lead stretched to 27 with nine minutes left on a Ben DeSaulnier (Philomath, Ore./Philomath) 3-pointer. Brad Sawin led the Oaks with 23 points and nine rebounds. The Raiders play their final home game of the preseason at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday against Simpson, which scored a win last weekend at Eastern Oregon.
