Eagles Stop High Scoring Bruins
NEWBERG, Ore. - The Northwest University Eagles held George Fox to a season low as they defeated the Bruins 81-65 in non-league play tonight. GFU was averaging 104 points per game for their first three games of the season and shooting at a 50% clip. NU held the Bruins 35 points under their average and held GFU to 40% shooting from the field.
Northwest U (5-2) used a 10-0 run in the second half to break open a close game after taking a narrow 35-33 lead at halftime. With the game tied at 40-40 with 17 minutes remaining in the game, the Eagles scored ten straight points ignited by a C.J. Carter jumper and capped off by a driving lay-in by Tomas Ogbaslassie, to go up 50-40. NU would stretch the lead to 25 on two straight lay-ins by Marko Nikolic and Ogbaslassie with 3:31 to play as the Eagles would close out their 5
th win of the season.
Four Eagles scored in double figures for NU: Marko Nikolic led the way with 16 points and shot 80% for the game; Dak Shagren scored 12; C.J. Carter 11; and Tomas Ogbaslassie with 10 points. NU shot 53% for the night hitting 34 of 64 attempts.
NU returns to Kirkland and will host Multnomah University on Monday in a 7 p.m. game in the Pavilion.
