LA GRANDE, Ore.- The Cascade Collegiate Conference sponsors a Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) made up of representatives from each member institution. The function of the committee is to; discuss and provide feedback on conference issues affecting student-athlete welfare, assist in educating student athletes about CCC/NAIA issues on their home campus, increase and improve student-athletes' understanding of the CCC and NAIA Legislative process, promote student-athlete participation in department wide Champions of Character programs and provide a forum for addressing student-athlete concerns.

The CCC office caught up with Rebekah Matteri who is one of the
SAAC committee representatives from Oregon Tech and participates in women's soccer and basketball.

CC- How did you choose Oregon Tech to continue your athletic and academic career?

RM- It was my best option to continue playing both soccer and basketball.  Also the Geomatics program seemed like something I could really enjoy.

CC- What are some of the demands of being a student athlete?

RM- Being a student athlete demands an incredible amount of time and dedication to all of your activities.  To be successful in school and in athletics there is almost no time to do anything else!

CC- What are some of your best experiences so far, both academically and athletically at college?

RM- Academically, completing technical writing was a great experience.  It is something at OIT that is talked about and feared by many.  I put it off for 3 years until finally taking it on and once it was finished I felt very accomplished.  Athletically, winning the CCC tournament in basketball and making it to the national tournament.

CC- Who are some influential people in your life at OIT?

RM- Our administration at Oregon Tech is very inspiring.  President Chris Maples, Dean Erin Foley, and Athletic Director Mike Schell all have such genuine care about the well being of students.  It is incredibly wonderful and a privilege to get to know them on a personal basis and watch them help better Oregon Tech.

CC- When not competing or studying what do you do for fun?

RM- I love to snowboard, go to the lake or river, go boating, wakeboard, really anything outdoorsy!

CC- What do you hope to accomplish as a member of the CCC-SAAC?

RM- I hope to uphold the core values as an athlete and help my teammates also do so.  I also would like to help people gain knowledge of the CCC and show people that we exist and we are a competitive conference!

CC- What do you see yourself doing after graduation?

RM- I am willing to move just about anywhere close to a mountain to snowboard in the winter and a lake or river to play on in the summer.  I plan to apply to plenty of Surveying and GIS jobs in many locations and pick the best fit for me from there.
