Geoducks Improve to 4-0 With 79-58 Win
Evergreen improved its women's basketball season record to 4-0 Tuesday night with a 79-58 non-conference victory over visiting New Hope Christian College at CRC Gymnasium.
The Geoducks raced to a 36-21 halftime lead and cruised in from there in handing the Deacons their 10th defeat in 11 games this season.
Senior post Brittany Gray led five players in double figures with 20 points. She was 8-for-11 from the field and perfect on all four of her free throw opportunities. In addition, Gray finished one rebound shy of a double-double.
One player who did accomplish a double-double for Evergreen was senior post Sadee Jones, who tallied 18 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Jones scored her points on a variety of jumpers, inside moves and rebound baskets. She was 8-for-12 from the field and 2-for-2 at the charity stripe.
Natasha Trinidad scored 13 points and grabbed four rebounds, LaNiecia Weatherspoon chipped in 12 points, and Uriah Thomas came off the bench to tally 12 points and grab five boards. Point guard Randi Boseman was tough on the defensive glass with eight of her nine rebounds coming on that end of the floor.
The Geoducks shot 52 percent (31-for-59) overall and were an impressive 94 percent (16-for-17) from the free throw line. They also enjoyed a significant 45-25 margin in rebounding.
New Hope was led by Taya Harbick with 17 points, followed by Mariah Mendez-Olizer with 15 and Raeanne Davis with 10. Mendez-Oliver led all players with four assists.
The Deacons shot just 36 percent (23-for-63) from the field against the Evergreen defense and also committed 21 turnovers.
Evergreen returns to action on Friday, Dec. 5, when it opens Cascade Collegiate Conference action against defending champion Eastern Oregon in La Grande.
