SEATTLE, Wash. – The Northwest University women traveled across Lake Washington to take on NCAA Division I Seattle University and fell to the Redhawks 82-55 in an exhibition game for both teams. NU stayed within 8 to 12 points a good part of the game with SU pulling away at the end.

Alexis Montgomery put Seattle U ahead 20-10 with 9:39 to go in the first half, and would maintain a 10-12 point lead until Jordan Asher would hit a 3-pointer with 3:51 left in the half to make it a seven point, 29-22 game.  Asher would hit two free throws at the 2:15 mark as SU would hold on to a 33-24 lead.  Five straight Redhawk points would grow their lead to 14, 38-24 with 59 seconds left, but Northwest U’s Jenna Lewis would drop in two free throws with 43 seconds remaining as SU would take a 38-26 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Seattle U would hold a 45-34 lead 6 minutes into the period, but Jordan Asher would continue her hot hand from beyond the 3-point arc and hit one to close the gap to 45-36. A layup by Hannah Carlson on a cut to the basket and a jumper by Charmaine Bradford would cut the SU lead to 8, 48-40 with 13 minutes left in the game. Seattle U would go up 56-45 with 10:05 on the clock and would maintain the lead the remainder of the way and slowly increase their lead at the end for the 82-55 exhibition victory.

Junior Jordan Asher led Northwest U with 18 points including 4 for 9 shooting from the 3-point line. She also added 5 assists for the night. Freshman Hannah Carlson came off the bench to contribute 10 points and 6 rebounds. Junior Brianna Fiso grabbed 6 rebounds for the Eagles who shot 32% for the game.

Seattle University was led by Alexis Montgomery and Taelor Ross who both scored 14 points. Wilma Afunugo scored 12 points and had 7 rebounds for the Redhawks. Su won the battle of the rebounds with a 44-40 edge and shot 44.4% for the contest.

Said Ken Crawford, the Eagles head coach, “I’m really proud of our team tonight. Everyone worked hard, we learned a lot tonight and we are looking forward to a great season.”

Northwest U will depart Thursday for Southern California and two games against GSAC teams, Hope International and Biola on Friday and Saturday. It will be a bit of a homecoming for Coach Crawford on Saturday as he was the women’s coach at Biola before moving back to the Pacific Northwest.
