Mountaineers Defeat Walla Walla, 87-57

CALDWELL, Idaho – The Eastern Oregon University men's basketball team won their fourth straight contest, as EOU defeated Walla Walla University, 87-57, Friday afternoon in the first game of the Taco Bell Shootout. The Mountaineers shot 47 percent from the floor for the game.

Bryan McGriff led the Mountaineers with 20 points on the afternoon. Deonta Edwards followed with 19 points. Michael Crane scored 11 points and collected 11 rebounds for his third double-double of the season.

The Mountaineers and Wolves stayed close for the first five minutes of the game. With the score tied at, 11-11, EOU slowly started to pull away. A layup by Christian Parrott gave Eastern Oregon a two point lead, 13-11. After gaining the lead EOU did not trail again.  

McGriff recorded five straight points and Edwards hit a three pointer to extend the Mountaineers lead to nine points, 23-14. EOU continued to extend their lead and took a 22 point, 49-27, advantage at halftime. EOU hit seven three pointers and shot 48 percent from the floor in the first half.

The Mountaineers shooting continued to stay hot, as they shot 47 percent from the floor in the second half. EOU continued to pull away as a layup by Crane extended the Mountaineers lead to 68-33.

Walla Walla had no answer for the Mountaineers and EOU grew the lead to 33 points, 79-46, after a McGriff jumper. The Mountaineers scored eight more points and claimed an 87-57 victory over Walla Walla.

EOU returns to action tomorrow, Nov. 8, when they take on Arizona Christian University at 5 p.m. MT in their second game of the Taco Bell Shootout.
