EL CAJON, Calif. – San Diego Christian scored 44 second half points to overtake Northwest University, 70-55 in a non-conference game tonight.

Northwest U held a 30-26 lead at the half aided by 48% shooting and 8 points each from C.J. Carter and Nemanja Grujicic. Two Derrick Thompson free throws put SDCC up 23-22 with 3:32 left in the half, but a 3 point play by NU’s Tomas Ogbaslassie would give the lead back to the Eagles, 25-23, with 3:30 on the clock. SDCC would come back to tie the game at 26-26, but four straight points by the Eagles would give Northwest U the 30-26 lead at halftime.

Five minutes into the second half a C.J. Carter free throw would give NU a 37-30 lead, but a 10-2 run by SDCC would give them the 40-39 lead after Derrick Thompson’s driving layup. With the game tied 43-all, the Hawks would get on a 12-0 run after five straight points by Rafael Rodriguez. NU would never regain the momentum as the Hawks would finish the game with Trevor English’s two free throws with 35 seconds to go to give San Diego Christian the 70-55 win.

C.J. Carter Led Northwest U (2-1) with 16 points. Nemanja Grujicic would add 11 points and 9 rebounds while Marko Nikolic and Cody Shackett added 8 points each for the Eagles. NU finished the game shooting a respectable 45% while winning the rebounding battle, 30-28.

San Diego Christian (2-0) was led by Trevor English and Rafael Rodriguez who both scored 15 points for the Hawks. Derrick Thompson and Peter Beale-Wirsing each scored 13 with Beale-Wirsing leading the team with 9 rebounds.  The hawks shot 42% for the game.

Northwest U now head north to La Mirada to team up with the NU women for a doubleheader with Biola University on Saturday with the women playing at 3:00 p.m. and the men tipping off at 5:30 p.m.
