Warriors Get Ahead and Stay Ahead in Win Over Evergreen
OLYMPIA – AJ Monterossi led four Corban players in double-figure scoring as the Corban Warriors beat the Evergreen Geoducks, 82-68, in a Cascade Collegiate Conference men’s basketball game played Friday night in CRC Gymnasium.
With the victory the Warriors improve their season record to 7-3 and their conference mark to 1-1. Evergreen is now 3-7 overall and 0-3 in the conference.
Evergreen led only once in the game, that coming 39 seconds into the game on a three-point basket by Marquise Doss.
Corban’s Cody Crowe scored a layup about two minutes later to put his team ahead, 4-3, and the visitors remained on top the rest of the way.
Corban led for almost 37 minutes of the game and took its largest lead at 19 points with 5:03 remaining in the contest.
The Warriors had an excellent shooting night, hitting nearly 60 percent (31-for-52) from the field, including 6-for-12 accuracy from beyond the three-point line. The Geoducks, meanwhile, struggled from the floor throughout the contest. At one point they were 7-for-29 before finishing 22-for-68, or 32 percent. In addition, they couldn’t buy one from long range, going 7-for-34 for 21 percent.
Evergreen did win the rebounding battle, however, taking down 38 boards to 36 for the visitors. Alix Hernandez grabbed 10 for the Geoducks, while Crowe led his team with 10.
Joining Monterossi in double figures were Cyrus Ward with 14, Caleb Herzberg with 12 and Toby Roth with 10. Jordan Carter had a strong floor game with nine points, five assists and six rebounds, and Ward was right behind Crowe in rebounding with nine.
